The temple itself is amazing but is overpriced (IDR 455k) for foreigners visit to the top<br><br>we were given only 1 hour to visit the temple, it’s not enough at all. The management of candi needs to give tourists at least 2 hours to visit the temple, as we can see and admire more details on the relics and stupa.<br><br>Everything was a rush. The tour guide rushed us to move from one point to another point and to exit the temple.<br><br>This one hour experience inside the temple was not what we expected. It took 1.5 hours from Yogja to the temple, queue in getting our ticket scanned, queue to have our tour start and we were about to admire the history and the beauty of the candi, times up😥😥😥<br><br>Somemore when you are exiting, you have to walk 15 mins through a maze of stores with vendors who are relentless and like vultures.<br><br>I dare say this is a tourist trap, not because of the temple itself (it's wonderful) but the management n own experience |

Not worth visiting. Just a small temple located in big garden. Locals pay IDR50,000 to 80,000 for entry tickets but foreigners were slaughter with IDR455,000 just for 45 minutes tours. Nothing here, just a abandoned Hindu temple. That is 5 to 8 times what locals pay to enter the temple. I have visit Angkor Wat in Cambodia and it much cheaper, bigger and took hours to walk around in a beautiful surroundings. |

Temple is amazing, this review is for the management.<br><br>The magic of borubudur is lost due to the management of the temple park.<br>They built a Chinese-style parking/shopping facility outside and you are forced to go through it.<br>Then you need to get in a golf cart to take you closer to the temple.<br>You are restricted to visit to just 1 hour in total, which is not enough.<br>You can no longer go during sunrise or sunset as I guess the management loves to sleep in till later in the morning.<br>Then to come back from the temple to the exit you are coerced to pay a fee to take the golf cart back, or your can walk about 7 blocks.<br>It’s nonsense.<br>The temple It’s still totally worth going as the temple is amazing, but adjust your expectations as you are in and out in a breeze. |

I would gladly give the temple 5 stars how we the management of this facility is so bad.<br><br>Let’s start with the price, if you are a foreigner it’s $25 USD and $3 for locals.<br><br>They offer bikes and golf carts however you can easily walk the entire property in 20 mins.<br><br>There is no helpful signs to explain the moment, likely to protect the tour guides jobs.<br><br>You’re not allowed to walk up the temple anymore, looking at it from the bottom is okay but lackluster. Takes about 5 mins to do a loop.<br><br>Instead of being able to exit easily they funnel you through a run down zoo with chained elephants (so sad). That is then followed by forcing you to enter a tent city with I kid you not thousands of merchants who endlessly harass you, it take 15 mins to make it through the shops. By the time you reach the end you’re so tired and worn down.<br><br>Essentially this is a impressive historical site that was completely ruined by bad management that has created a robust business or tourism extortion.<br><br>I’d skip this one. |

The day we went to the temple the management randomly decided that that day the temple would be closed and tourists could only walk around it. They didn't communicate this to anyone in advance (on the contrary they had advertised that as of 1st March the temple would have finally fully reopened) and still charged tourists full price. To put things into perspective, the price for foreign tourists is much higher than visiting the Louvre or the Colosseum archeological area. Those who stayed nearby left and came back another day, but most tourists couldn't as the temple is at least 90min away from Yogyakarta and you need to hire a driver to get there.<br><br>The famous views from the top? Didn't see them. The famous stupas? Didn't see them. The famous reliefs or the ship's series? Forget about them. We were extremely disappointed with it because the temple was the main reason why we visited Yogyakarta and we wouldn't have gone if we had known how poorly this site is managed. I would consider postponing your trip to Yogyakarta as the management clearly doesn't know what they're doing and have no respect for tourists travelling on purpose to see the temple. I'm attaching photos of what you actually see so you can judge for yourself.<br><br>We visited the two museums on site and wouldn't recommend them, they barely contain any original artwork or ruin. |

I can only rate the experience with the ground ticket as the other one needs to be bought way in advance as it’s limited to 150 people per slot (we didn’t find a single available time slot for the next 6 days). The ground ticket was in my opinion simply a tourist rip off. It is 400K, so priced extremely high. For that you can walk around the temple without any special views or structures that would give you a nice way. Worst part is that you cannot simply exit the temple structure without being forced to walk through what feels like 20min of marker stands that try to sell you various goods. Maybe up on the temple things are different, but the ground ticket experience would be overpriced for 50K considering you have to go through the market, for 400K it’s just ridiculous. I can’t understand how such an experience is UNESCO certified. |

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND as a Westerner ⭐☆☆☆☆<br>We hiked all the way to the top in the heat, only to be told we couldn’t enter because of our closed in shoes, would’ve been nice to know before climbing all that way. Then we got escorted out like we’d committed a crime. Paid a ridiculous $40 per person just to be herded around like cattle. Half the place was roped off, and every few steps someone’s trying to sell you something. Poor signage, zero detail, and when we tried to get on the shuttle, we were told “not with your ticket.” And got laugh at by all the people on the shuttle while they drove of so we had to walk for ages. Almost nobody speaks English if you need help, so you’re left constantly guessing where to go. Zero shade, so you just roast in the sun. The “view” was mostly selfie sticks. And the exit? A nightmare maze of endless souvenir stalls you have to battle your way through. Overpriced, disorganised, and an all-round frustrating experience. |

For sure the place is amazing but with the ground ticket you can't see much .. it was impossible to get the structure ticket due to maintenance so we got the ground one for 25 USD and it s pretty disappointing and so expensive for what you get to see. We couldn't even walk around the temple. Those who got the structure ticket months ago were not able to climb the temple further the first level.. They didn't offer any information about this on the website so the place was full of upset visitors complaining here and there trying to get their money back. They just got disposable flip-flops as compensation. We felt totally scammed. We took one picture and we left the place. I hope you have better luck! |

The temple was beautiful. However, the service and process you have to go through to even go into the temple grounds is absolutely ridiculous. From the time we parked the car, bought tickets, waited for sandals, and then a tour guide, which is NOT even needed, it had been over 2.5 hours of boiling in the sun!! The whole process is an inefficient, non-productive, waste of time and ruins the while experience. I visited here 6 years ago and the experience was the opposite of todays visit. Things are supposed to evolve, not have changes that make the whole process unbearable! If this wasn't a heritage of outstanding beauty and wonder, I would say don't bother, visit a different temple. Just a heads up for people with young families or older aged people who are expected to sit around for hours scratching themselves and waiting forever. |

프람바난 보고 이틀 뒤 방문함. 입장하는 곳부터 매표소, 유적지까지 동선이 미로 같음. 매우 복잡하고 불필요할 정도 긺. 관람하기도 전에 지침. 사원 내부 입장하여 관람하려면 반드시 가이드와 동행해야 함. 내가 원하는 속도로 조용하고 차분하게 관람이 불가능함. 덕분에 아무리 유적 자체가 훌륭해도 관람에 몰입이 안 됨. 사원 내 머무르는 시간도 이동시간 제외 45분 이내로 매우 짧음. 인니와 족자가 자랑하는 그 많고 많은 정교하고 생동감 있는 부조를 그 시간 안에 어떻게 감상함? 퇴장 동선도 어이 없을 정도로 비효율적임. 출구 안내도 제대로 안 돼서 나 말고도 헤메는 외국인들 여러명 봤음. 대중교통 이용하는 방문객들 고려는 전혀 안하고 설계한 듯 함. 오고가기 힘들고, 도착해서도 관람하기 힘들고, 관람 자체도 몰입이 불가능한 구조라 매우 불편하고 불쾌했음. 짧은 관람 시간에 비해 입장권 가격도 너무 비쌈. 460K. |

I first visited the temple in 2019 and it was an entirely different experience. This time, in 2024, they told us the tickets for the temple structure are sold out and we can only have access to the ground floor, for the price of 387.000 IDR. Ok . When we arrived, all other floors were not crowded at all, but locked. We spent 10 mins walking around the temple, then followed the exit signs and found ourselves in kms of souvenir shops... Endless.<br>The temple is beautiful but unfortunately it has become a tourist trap. What a shame! |

Went on the Vesak day (buddhas birthday) the temple was closed to everyone. Nobody but the monks were allowed anywhere near the temple.<br>Everyone else got to watch them walk laps on a giant tv<br>I understand its a holy day for the Buddhists, but there was no clear information anywhere that the temple would be inaccessible to tourists on that day, especiallythe sunrise visit as the monks didnt arrive until around 8am.<br>Very expensive trip to see it from the gate. Unless you like massive crowds, there's nothing to see that you couldn't have gotten a better look on Google images.<br><br>If you're hoping to see the temple, make sure its not on a celebrated day or you'll be sorely disappointed 😕 |

J'ai parcouru Java d'ouest en est pendant plus de deux semaines, et je dois dire que c'est l'endroit que j'ai le moins apprécié de toute l'île. Voici pourquoi :<br><br>1) Le prix d'entrée est exorbitant, près de 10 fois supérieur à ce que paient les locaux pour accéder au site. Cela rend la visite beaucoup trop chère par rapport à ce que l'on peut réellement voir et faire sur place.<br><br>2) Les horaires d'ouverture sont un problème majeur pour les touristes. L'entrée n'est autorisée qu'à partir de 8 ou 9 heures, ce qui rend impossible la réservation à l'avance pour ceux qui souhaitent planifier leur visite. Sauf si vous faites appel à des agences touristiques qui prennent évidemment leur part de commission.<br><br>3)Une fois que vous avez payé l'entrée, vous êtes seulement autorisé à rester au niveau du sol, ce qui signifie que vous ne pouvez admirer les sculptures qu'à partir du bas du temple. C'est comme si vous deviez payer pour voir la Tour Eiffel depuis la place en bas sans pouvoir monter au sommet. Imaginez l'étendue du site et à quel point la vue est limitée depuis le bas.<br><br>4) Si vous souhaitez monter plus haut, vous devez payer un supplément, mais il y a un quota, ce qui signifie que si vous arrivez à 9 heures, par exemple, vous risquez d'être placé dans le groupe de midi pour accéder à l'étage supérieur. Nous sommes venus dès l'ouverture et on nous a dit qu'il fallait attendre jusqu'à midi voire 13 heures pour pouvoir monter. Sachant que nous étions sur place depuis le lever du soleil (à 5h30), nous n'avions pas envie de consacrer toute notre journée à un seul temple. Il y a tellement de choses à faire dans la région que nous ne pensions pas devoir y passer autant de temps. Nous avons donc finalement renoncé à attendre pendant près de 7 heures pour une montée qui ne semblait pas arriver.<br><br>5) En plus de l'attente, il faut marcher presque 15 minutes pour atteindre la base du site, mais le tour du temple ne prend que moins de 5 minutes. Autant dire que nous avons déjà perdu 30 minutes rien qu'à l'achat des tickets, aux contrôles d'entrée, et 30 minutes à la marche aller-retour jusqu'au site (étant donné que nous n'avions pas le droit de sortir par l'entrée, nous avons dû revenir par un autre chemin). Tout cela pour arriver devant un temple sur une plate-forme que nous n'avions même pas le droit de grimper. Après toutes ces péripéties, j'ai eu le sentiment amer d'avoir gaspillé mon temps et mon argent pour pas grand-chose.<br><br>6) Le site lui-même n'a pas grand intérêt si on n'est pas autorisé à monter. Ainsi, je n'ai pas pu apprécier pleinement le lieu.<br><br>7) Ce qui est d'autant plus frustrant, c'est que certaines compagnies parviennent à obtenir des billets pour les montées du matin, mais pas les visiteurs indépendants. Cela me paraît très injuste, surtout lorsque l'on nous dit qu'il n'est pas possible de réserver à l'avance. Alors comment se fait-il qu'un guide local ait pu obtenir des places pour ses clients dans le premier groupe ?<br><br>En conclusion, mon expérience a été très décevante, et je ne recommande pas du tout ce site, à moins d'avoir une journée entière à perdre pour pouvoir y monter. Si vous voulez visiter un superbe temple, je vous conseille plutôt le temple de Pambanan, où l'on peut monter et profiter pleinement de la vue. |

Recently I visited Borobudur temple as a foreigner and to my surprise the entrance fee was 500,000 rupiah (30 USD) while the locals pay only 50,000 rupiah (3 USD). It is 10 times higher than what local pays to enter the temple. I was really taken aback when I found out that 500,000 rupiah only allows me to visit the temple on the ground without being able to enter and go on top the Borobudur temple. I have to pay additional 500,000 rupiah (30 USD) in order to do so. I was dumbfounded. Mind you Borobudur, you only have one temple to be explored unlike Angkor Wat ....a massive compound of different temples for 37 USD per day! I am very much happy to pay at Angkor Wat.<br>Now I realized why there were not many foreigners visiting Borobudur temple. Your entrance fee is bloody expensive! From my visit, I see so many local Indonesian tourist compared to foreigners. When you consider to make even 5 time higher than what local pays which amounted to 250,000 rupiah (15 USD), you are already earning a lot Borobudur.<br>To those who is reading my comments, below are my comparison of entrance fee to the world's most famous attraction.<br><br>Taj Mahal in India -<br>1100 Indian rupees (USD 12.40)<br><br>Great Wall of China<br>40 CNY (5.70 USD)<br><br>Ground plateau of Pyramids of Gaza, Cairo, Egypt.<br>700 Egyptian Pounds (USD 14.70)<br><br>Colosseum<br>- Taking picture outside, it's FREE!<br>If you plan to enter Colloseum, it's only 18 Euro (21 USD)<br><br>WOW Borobudur management ..... You have done a great job collecting so much from foreigners......Well done! |
