This place is separate from Prambanan Temple. There is no additional entrance fee. To get to this location, you have to walk about 10 to 15 minutes. You can also rent a scooter for IDR 35,000 for 30 minutes I think this is enough to get around Sewu Temple.<br><br>Unlike the other temples, at Sewu Temple you can go inside to the top of the temple. You can see in detail how the carvings of this temple.<br><br>Parking for bicycles is also provided and very secure.<br><br>There will be information about how this temple was built. Unfortunately, to maintain the authenticity of the buildings and structures, several temples are no longer standing and many stones are on the ground. But for me, this is an advantage because I can clearly see how people in the past built extraordinary buildings without cement or adhesives. |

This is a really nice part of the Prambanan temple area. It is also furthest away from the entrance.<br><br>Sewu is a Buddhist temple in a mostly Hindu site.<br><br>The temple is great for taking photos and looking at the challenge that lay ahead if all is supposed be rebuilt.<br><br>On the temple grounds we saw several species of birds, some lizards and a confused mongoose.<br><br>At the moment it costs around 20 EUR/person to get in to the temple grounds. Inside you will find 4 temples, a museum, some activities and a depressing collection of caged animals. Smaller temples outside this area usually charge less than 3 euros for letting you in. |

It was a long walk and we were regretting not renting a ride here, but all our efforts felt justified when we reached here. We were literally blown away by mesmerizing beauty of this gem.<br>It is second biggest buddhist temple in central Java region. There are 8 main temples in 8 directions cslled Candi Penjuru and 240 surrounding temples called Candi Perwara. The smaller ones are slmost entirely ruined, but the bigger ones are more or less intact.<br>Watching the sun setting behind these temple domes was one of the most beautiful sight which we will cherish forever. |

En plus, ce temple a une très belle histoire.<br><br>Selon la légende, le roi Boko voulait épouser la princesse Loro Jonggrang, mais elle ne voulait pas se marier avec lui. Pour échapper à cette union, elle posa une condition : il devait construire 1 000 temples en une seule nuit. Avec l’aide de ses esprits, le roi réussit à en construire 999, mais Loro Jonggrang fit appel à des villageoises pour battre du riz et simuler l’aube, ce qui interrompit les esprits. En colère, le roi Boko transforma la princesse en pierre, complétant ainsi le 1 000ème temple.<br><br>Ce temple est imprégné de cette légende fascinante et mérite vraiment une visite. |

It's one of the temple located inside the Prambanan complex (the others are Lumbung and Bubrah temple). Make sure to visit this temple and the museum after you finished enjoying Prambanan. The best way to reach Sewu temple in my opinion is to rent a bike (IDR 10-20k for 30 minutes). Reconstruction is still ongoing and you can see many people at work, which is very interesting. Inside the museum, you can see in detail how the temple was found in the past and the whole reconstruction process. |
