Paid Rp150k for a temple guide to take us through the temple. And I highly recommend so else it's hard to appreciate and understand this place.<br><br>A Hindu temple older than Borobudur, with 240 temples, including 3 main ones in the middle, worshipping Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. This place reminded me much of Ang Kor Wat. According to the guide, it's not a surprise because all Hindu temples follow the same ideology of building tall and sharp, to resemble the Himalayas.<br><br>There were spots of unfinished carvings which were said to be abandoned midway because of the earthquake back then. Out of the 240 temples, only 16 are restored so far while the rest remain in piles of rubble as it takes a year to find the matching pieces of each temple, then 8 months to piece them together, not forgetting the USD$150k costs per temple. I for sure will not live to see the complete restoration and I pray no further volcano eruption that may undo whatever is done so far.<br><br>The guided tour covers only Prambanan but there are actually 3 more temples in the grounds which we explored on our own. 2 of them are closed to visitors so we can only take photos from the outside. Only Sewu Temple, the furthest from Prambanan, is open for entry. This is a Buddhist temple but honestly looked quite like a smaller version of Prambanan. It is actually as big as Prambanan with even more temples (249 to be exact) but largely in ruins.<br><br>We walked almost a km from Prambanan to Sewu as directed by the guide. But I recommend taking the buggy (Rp20k), which will make a stop at Sewu before taking one to the exit. Else it's a long walk again from Sewu Temple all the way out, as we experienced personally.<br><br>The exit leads to a fairly huge bazaar but it was all closed when we came out, not sure if it's always closed or because it was the Ramadan holidays on this day. |

A must see. It catered for International tourists very well with a free map in English on arrival. As a family of 4 we hired a 3 wheeler for 70 IDR to get down to Sewu temple. You have 15 minutes for the hire, but the bike only seats 2 adults and 1 child comfortably, but they didnt seem to mind that we did 2 trips there and back and took about 25 mins. The transfer by golf cart is 25 IDR per person, so the bike was a cheaper option. Walking there is no problems but the entrance to temple Sewu is on the far side and would be far in the hot sun. My main reason for not giving 5 stars is that they have two Southern Cassowaries housed in tiny cages near the exit. This is cruel and offensive to Australians. They are an endagered species and should not be kept like this. Please make bigger enclosures where these beautiful, wild animals can walk around and feel as if they are in their natural habitat. |

The Prambanan temple has better location than the Borobudur one. It's located directly in the jogjakarta city. You need only like 20 minutes from the city centre to Prambanan temple. Whereas the Borobudur is far away from Jogjakarta and it's belongs to another city, called Magelang. The entry ticket is sadly similar like Borobudur which is higher price for foreign tourists than for the local tourists. Make sure you have enough money. What good is here in Prambanan you don't have to climb many stairs since the temple complex is smaller than Borobudur. |

Beautiful temple but very touristic. That reduces the authenticity for us. Classes from schools and English courses gather here to practise their English skills on foreigners. After helping 4 different scholars I felt that was enough for the day and denied others asking for practicing.<br>Also, in such a touristic place you would expect people to be used to foreigners but it felt like I was the first ever foreigner everyone had ever seen. After posing 5 times for people asking to make pictures with me made me wonder why that happened. This was not the case in the Borobudur Temple. Later I was told that these people were (Indonesian) tourists themselves and are not from Yogyakarta.<br><br>Make sure you take all the pictures already if you follow the route towards the main temple area. After you pass a green fence you are not allowed back and have to follow the exit signs and go all the way back to make the picture you missed. For example the white letters Prambanan. |

Für mich persönlich hat es gereicht, die Haupt-Tempelanlage zu besichtigen – sie ist geschichtlich und architektonisch äußerst interessant und gibt einen großartigen Eindruck der gesamten Anlage. Durch die Hitze und die großen Entfernungen zwischen den einzelnen Tempeln wird der Rundgang jedoch schnell anstrengend.<br>Fazit: Die Haupt-Tempelanlage allein ist den Besuch absolut wert – wer alles sehen möchte, sollte Zeit, Wasser und Sonnenschutz einplanen. |

I visited Prambanan during a day-trip with a private driver. He had already bought my entry ticket in advance. Unlike Borobudur, you can explore Prambanan by yourself. However, I recommend paying the 150k/hour to get a guide. My guide was so much fun and was very knowledgeable about the history of the site as well as all of the religious aspects.<br><br>The only thing that bothered me during my visit was the lack of shaded areas from the heat, and the small black pebbles that krept under my feet constantly. |

Disappointing. Yes the view of the main temple complex is magnificent but you have to make abstraction of the thousands of people on it and near you, sitting on the stones, taking pictures in every possible nook and cranny. Furthermore the noise around there from bands, merchants, sellers of bikes, you name it detracts from the experience. To exit, as in Borobodur you have no choice but walk past dozens and dozens of shops selling everything under the sun, plus attractions for kids, petting zoo etc. This is more a mini Dysneyland than a temple. Pity that the beauty of the place is spoiled by all this.<br>Also, to make foreigners pay 16 TIMES the price paid by locals even though locals represent more than 90 percent of the users is just EXTORTION. |

It is not enough for an individual to judge the temples and culture of each country. If you are traveling to Yogyakarta, it is one of the famous places. If you take the shuttle, it is easy to just pass by other temples around. The second Seu temple is on the opposite side of the main gate. The shuttle parks in the back. It is recommended that you get off, enjoy the view freely, and walk to the exit. The entrance fee, which is excessively charged to foreigners compared to other UNESCO cultural heritages in other Asian countries around the area, needs to be adjusted. An additional 20,000 rupiah is charged for the shuttle fee. |

Definitely a must see when in the region. There’s also a little zoo and two more smaller stone temple-like structures included in the price of the ticket right next to the temple. Don’t be afraid to accept an offer from young students around the temple to guide you around, they’re there to practice their English - a tip at the end of their tour is voluntary but appreciated. However, during peak hours when we visited it was quite crowded (during the season on Monday) and you lose the feeling of a historical mystical atmosphere that I at least came looking for. Check on the internet for less crowded hours before your visit, overall I’m guessing as early in the morning as possible is an ideal time. |

El templo es muy bonito y merece la pena visitarlo.<br>Ten en cuenta que si vas un lunes, estará cerrada la parte principal del templo por mantenimiento, con lo que únicamente podrás verlo por fuera de la valla.
